Mandurah Canals Christmas Lights Displays WINNERS!

For the 2016 / 2017 Christmas Lights Cruise season we hosted a photo competition to help to choose the best Christmas Lights decorated canal home in Mandurah – The People’s Choice Award!

Passengers on-board our Christmas Lights Cruises were asked to take a photo of their favourite Christmas Lights house, upload it to our ‘photo competition’ tab on Facebook. The house with the most entries would be declared the winner of The People’s Choice Award and all who submitted a photo entry went into the draw to WIN a Mandurah Weekend Escape and other great prize packs.

The Christmas Lights Photo Competition entries have been counted… Here are The People’s Choice for the best decorated Christmas lights house 2016 / 2017!

There were over 17 houses nominated for The People’s Choice and while 1st place was the clear winner only a few votes separated the other place getters. It all came down to the final day of the competition. Congratulations to the winning house known as ‘The Castle’ by our crew (43 Aztec Island Rt).

Mandurah’s Dolphins

Mandurah has a healthy population of Bottle Nose Dolphins (tusiops truncatus) that is estimated to number up to 75 individuals, depending on the time of year. The number increases around mating times when males come in and join the pods. The pods of dolphins average around 10-15 and have sometimes been seen to be as large as 25 down to solitary dolphins or smaller family groups of 3-4.

Their average length is about 3 metres, with calves being about 1 metre long at birth. We normally see baby dolphins appear between December and April. Mandurah's wild dolphins are medium grey in colour with light flanks and pale bellies. They can live up to 30 years and can swim in short bursts up to 40km/h and they love to play in our ferries bow waves and wash. As a matter of fact dolphins are the only other mammals apart from humans that continue to play well into their adult life. And Mandurah's wild dolphins are very playful!
